Have you noticed how the metaphysical world is going mainstream? Suddenly the hip “popular people” are talking about the healing powers of crystals and posting facebook pictures of the full moon. Some people may be annoyed at the mainstreaming of this counter-culture, but I see it as an opportunity to get some great deals and find some really cool stuff without going to out of the way stores.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good local store and indie find as much as the next person – but when my sister can purchase a great christmas present for me at Target, I’m all for it!
Below I’ve collected just a few suggestions of where you can find some great witchy items and metaphysical haul without having to make a special stop.
So, I have to admit, I’m a Target junkie. They have everything you need in one spot and it is one place my three year old doesn’t mind stopping. When you first walk in I highly recommend checking out “the spot” which is a section with items all costing between one and five dollars. I have found some great glass bottles to use to store my witchy herbs and moon water – all for under five bucks. Not too shabby.
I was shocked one day when I walked past the display of “healing crystal” bracelets and mala beads. I mean, can you even believe you can buy a rose quartz mala at a chain store? And don’t forget to check out the clothing. They have had some great moon shirts and even some with sacred geometry lately. I received a text recently from my sister freaking out at all the shirts that she thought I would like. Needless to say I went to Target the next day.
Now you may have guessed that Target is one of my favorite places to shop, but it is not one of the best places to get actual crystals. They do have the occasional chunk of rose quartz or salt lamp, but I have found their costs to be on the high side.
Now if you want to find a great crystal at a price rivaling any metaphysical store, check out your local Home Goods. I am not a regular customer there, but after seeing a few posts on Instagram of gorgeous crystal specimens I decided to check it out for myself. I was in disbelief at the quality and, more importantly, the price of the crystals they had just sitting around.
Yep, if you want to find yourself some new reading material, but don’t have extra dough to lay down, check out your local library. I’ve found different library systems to be really hit or miss about their selection of metaphysical books. After living in several cities across the country I have come to my own generalities about where you can find a good selection. Usually, college towns end up having a pretty good selection of metaphysical books while those cities in the middle of the country are sometimes lacking. Also, don’t forget to check out your libraries online collection if you don’t have time to stop by their physical location.
Don’t forget to stop by your local grocery store for odds and ends. They usually carry a few candles and, depending on your store, some carry sage smudge sticks. Two of our grocery stores even have some crystal jewelry for sale, although their prices aren’t great. And while you are doing your grocery shopping you can always load up your cart with all your spell making items. Most witches can usually find numerous ways to use some salt.
Now if grocery stores and Target could just start carrying the latest Indie Tarot decks I really wouldn’t need to shop anywhere else!
What stores do you frequent for your metaphysical wares? Any good finds from chain stores in your area?
