“I cannot remember the books I’ve read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
With the end of the year upon us, I thought I would take a little retrospective on what books brought me the most joy this past year. And since I read a lot of books, I thought I would break this down by category.
Channeled Book
Channeled books are some of my favorite type of reading. I especially enjoy reading channeled messages in the morning before I start my day. I feel like they set me in the right frame of mind for what I will experience. My favorite channeled book this year is actually The Master Trilogy starting with The Book of Mastery as channeled by Paul Selig. I think Paul is quickly becoming my favorite modern day channels and I am greatly inspired by the insights his guides bring through.
Spiritual Non-Fiction
Journey of the Souls: Case Studies of Life Between Lives by Michael Newton likely had the biggest impact on me this year in terms of understanding and comprehending what it is like on the other side. This book provided great insight into what actually goes on and the different steps and stages on the other side. Some of the information I already knew but there were things that were new to me and it was fascinating to learn.
Fiction
In the fiction category, I really enjoyed Crossing Over by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel which is book four of her Suddenly Supernatural series. I, of course, loved all the books in this series but this is the only one I read this year. I only wish that she had continued to write more in this series as I would be lining up to read them. Occasionally, throughout my day, I still think about how the main character’s mother would react in certain situations. That character is the best example of an ethical medium I have read in any fiction.
Cozy Mystery
I love a good cozy mystery – something that helps me relax and just enjoy my day. This year, my favorite cozy mystery was the three books (so far I hope there will be more!) series – Bay Island Psychic Mystery Series by Lena Gregory. These books just left me with a general good feeling and they are something I still think about from time to time. There is nothing I would love more than to have my own little shop on a boardwalk dispensing psychic advice and knickknacks just like the main character in these books.
Autobiography
The autobiography that had the greatest impact on me this year is Fifty Years a Medium by Estelle Roberts. I actually read this entire manuscript online – so it is an easy one for people to gain access to. I loved learning about the heyday of the Spiritualist movement and all the unique ways that mediums in the past used to access and communicate with the deceased.
What were some of your favorite books you read this year? Anything I should add to my to-read list for next year??
