As we are a homeschooling family, we face what most…if not all…homeschooling families must face when choosing how and what to teach. Do you keep it secular or do you use curriculum which is religious?
Currently, we have chosen a highly Christian curriculum, not because of the religious content, but because of the other information included. Because of this, we happen upon many opportunities to discuss religious or spiritual information throughout the day. But, because I am the teacher, this means that I get the opportunity to shape the ideas and images of what these concepts mean.
There is no denying that in the United States we live in a highly Christianized culture, and having an understanding of these basic beliefs is helpful to navigate the world around you, even if you do not conform exactly to these mainstream ideas. Young children will run into these beliefs without realizing it – just read the book Dragon’s Love Tacos and realize the word Samaritan is referring to a story from the bible. Christian culture is embedded in the everyday world in the US.
So, with this in mind, I have taken it upon myself to teach my daughter these concepts of religion aka God, Jesus, other religious dudes, through the use of doodles.
And here, for your entertainment, is my explanation of God in the form a young child may be able to understand…at least start to comprehend…maybe a little…

Beautiful. ♥️
